THAT’S ALL FOLKS…… for a while.

Our last Sunday session of DDPP was small and intimate, but amazingly fun nonetheless. DJ Smashy put her talents on display again, and kept us rocking out with all kinds of goodness. Two new ladies joined us, and brought incredible energy and fresh moves to the dance floor. They weren’t even phased for a second that there were only 5 of us in the room. Thanks Sahsa and Leigh (or is it Lee?)- you rock! Things will be a little quiet here for a bit, but we’ll be back in full force on Wednesday, May 14th @6 pm, so tell all your friends and we’ll see you there!

Cha-Cha-Cha-Changes….

The only certainty in life is change my ladies, and we’ve definitely gotten a lesson in that this week.  We’ve come up against some serious scheduling challenges, so DDPP is going on a bit of a hiatus and then we’re changing days.  There WILL be DDPP this Sunday (April 6th), but that will be the last Sunday session!  We won’t be meeting for a few weeks after that, but starting in mid-May we’ll return full force EVERY WEDNESDAY NIGHT!

While we’re sad to be DDPP-less for a few weeks, there is an upside to all this.  We’re finally getting our wish of weekday dancing! Starting Wed, May 14th (@6 - 7:30 pm) we’ll be getting our groove on each and every Wednesday.  Could there be a better way to observe hump day than spending it actually doing the Humpty Dance?!  I think not…..

So, my sincerest apologies to all you incredibly fabulous ladies who have come so faithfully every Sunday.  You have made these first few months of DDPP truly amazing.  You have also made it possible for me to look forward to Sunday nights rather than dread them, so thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Our Sunday sessions will be sorely missed, but I am holding out hope that when the Parlor’s schedule calms down a bit (sometime in the fall I think), we’ll be able to get back to dancing every Sunday.

In the mean time, come dance with us for one last Sunday this week, and mark your calendars for May 14th when DDPP will make it’s fierce return!!!!

xoxo

Michi

Best. Birthday. Ever.

It’s official- every lady in the world should get to end her birthday weekend (and cure her birthday hangover) with a session of DDPP.  Incredible!!

We had a great crowd with multiple generations, moms, daughters, aunts, nieces, cousins, & friends.  We unveiled the slammin’ new DDPP promotional postcards (seriously, they are so awesome and shiny and great- let me know and I will get you a fat stack to hand out to every woman you know).  We even got to eat birthday cake (thanks, mom- you’re the best).  But perhaps most amazing was DJ Eargasm’s mix which took us across decades and genres, and culminated with the most energetic and inspired version of the Hokey Pokey any of us have ever done.  She is a genius.  Check out her handiwork below, and then go download the Hokey Pokey and play it at your next party.  You won’t regret it.

No DDPP on Easter Sunday…

We’re taking the week off next Sunday (3/23) to enjoy a day of egg hunting and stuffing ourselves with Cadbury cream eggs and jelly beans (yummmm)…. but we’ll be back in full effect on Sunday, 3/30 @5 so we’ll see you then!

playing catch-up

Hey ya’ll-

It’s been a busy few weeks, full of spring break travel to the sunny shores of Florida for a few of us, and two incredible DDPP sessions!! Both Sundays involved fabulous soundtracks- the first (on 3/9) courtesy of DJ hapajawn:

and the second (on 3/16) was the handiwork of DJ Smashy, who busted out the club vibe and introduced us to some awesome tunes from north of the border (that’s Canada, FYI):

The extra daylight brought on by daylight savings has changed the vibe in the studio a bit. It was a little weird at first to be dancing around with so much light streaming in the windows…. but we figure it just means we’re that much closer to summer, so we’ll take it! Plus, the new fancy disco ball we had pumping this past week made everything alright….

We won’t be dancing next Sunday on account of Easter, so enjoy your baskets full of candy and plates full of ham, and we shall see you all on Sunday, 3/30!

All God’s creatures love DDPP!

Wow. DJ Jewlicious really brought out the big guns this week, and wowed us with her utterly fabulous mix. In fact, it was so great the kitty that lives in the apartment upstairs (and we now know must be a girl cat) sat at the door meowing and staring longingly at us for a solid hour. DDPP is so much fun, even the animals want in!

There were also some very valuable lessons learned this week- the first being that even a frozen ipod can’t stop the magic (especially when you have smart ladies on the case who can fix the glitch quickly), and the second being that “Dancing Queen” is actually the perfect song to inspire an impromptu Electric Slide session. Oh, and the third being that when Erasure is interrupted mid-dance by ipod freezing….. it means it will have to appear on another mix very soon. Yeah, DJ Jewlicious!!!! See you all next Sunday!

30 going on 13

We remain a little behind the curve with the playlist postings, so today I’m putting up the playlist from last Sunday (2/17) and I promise I will have this Sunday’s up asap!

Dancing to DJ Pomme Frite’s mix was like traveling back to the pre-puberty years- sans the perms, pegged pants, and hyper color tees. Giving us It’s Tricky, PYT, Walking On Sunshine and I Think We’re Alone Now was sick enough, but when the first strains of Vouge began…. madness ensued! We can now add “kick-ass mix maker” to the long list of DJ Pomme Frite (aka Amy’s) talents- right below her ability to find the greatest french fry in the city :)

better late than never

Hey ladies!

Our apologies for being a bit behind here with the postings, but sometimes life gets a little hectic and busy, ya know? Anyways….. below is the HOT, HOT mix that DJ Jackattack & DJ Sassafrass crafted for us last Sunday (2/10). They got the party started, and kept the party going with their inspired picks! The only bummer was that DJ Sass found herself feeling under the weather that day and had to miss her playlist come to life and inspiring us all to dance up a storm. We hope you feel better girl! Check it:

Oh, and DJ Pomme Frite tore it up this evening!! That playlist will be posted for your viewing pleasure asap…..

I Want Candy!

It’s official girls, we’re hitting the big time. DDPP Philly is featured in Daily Candy Philadelphia’s weekend guide this week! So check it out, spread the word, and bring your friends this Sunday!

The DDPP revolution has begun my friends, and it’s only a matter of time until it’s a fixture in every happening city and town. I forgot to mention it in my last few posts, but have a listen to this incredible radio piece that aired NATIONALLY featuring DDPP Chicago a few weeks back. Based on that story alone, the DDPP mothership gals up in NYC got 27 emails from women all over the country who want to start up DDPP in their towns. This is incredible! There are new chapters popping up everyday, with the latest starting up in Atlanta, Cleveland, and as far away as Wellington, New Zealand! This simple idea of creating a space where women can come together for fun, exercise, and feeling free from judgement has taken hold and it shows no signs of slowing. I for one am truly inspired to be a part of it.

So I’ll see you on Sunday ladies, and remember- while the revloution may not be televised…. it will certainly have a kick-ass soundtrack.

old skool

DJ Sleazy E took us on a ride down memory lane this week.  She rocked hits from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and we loved it!! And as a quick sidenote- who the hell knew that “99 Luftballoons” (aka track 17) was actually the greatest dance song EVER?!? Check out her artistry below, and remember that we won’t be meeting next week (2/3). But don’t cry- we’ll be back in full force on Feb. 10th!
